About the file

What is My Clippings.txt?

A physical Kindle stores highlights, notes, and bookmarks in a text file named My Clippings.txt. The file records entries locally as you make them on the device.

PagePop reads that file and turns the entries into a searchable library on your iPhone or iPad. Importing does not automatically sync future Kindle highlights—you can import the file again when you want to update PagePop.

Step by step

From a text file to a useful highlight library.

  1. 01

Copy My Clippings.txt from your Kindle

Connect the Kindle to a computer, open the Kindle drive, and find documents/My Clippings.txt. Copy the file somewhere your iPhone or iPad can open through Files, such as iCloud Drive or an AirDrop destination.

  2. 02

    Choose the file in PagePop

Open the Clippings tab in PagePop, start an import, and select My Clippings.txt from the Files picker. Keep PagePop open while it reads and organizes the entries.

  3. 03

Let PagePop merge and organize the entries

PagePop groups clippings by book, joins adjacent entries where appropriate, and removes duplicates before saving them. It can also look up book information when a title can be matched.

  4. 04

Search, copy, or share a favorite passage

Open a book in the Clippings tab and search within its saved passages. You can copy the text or open PagePop’s share view to create a quote image for another app.

Storage & privacy

Your imported reading notes stay with PagePop.

Imported clippings are stored by PagePop on your device. If you enable PagePop Premium’s optional iCloud backup, the app’s database and related content can be included in that backup.

Book-information lookup can use an external metadata provider, but the clipping library itself does not require automatic Kindle cloud synchronization. Read the PagePop Privacy Policy for the complete details.

Clippings questions

Useful to know.

Does PagePop automatically sync new Kindle highlights?

No. Import My Clippings.txt again when you want to bring newer entries into PagePop.

Will importing the same file duplicate every clipping?

PagePop merges adjacent entries and removes duplicates during import so unchanged clippings are not intentionally added twice.

Can I search all the text inside a book’s clippings?

Yes. Open the clipping list for a book and search by words from the saved passage.

Can I share a Kindle highlight as an image?

Yes. PagePop includes a share view that renders a selected clipping as a quote card you can save or send to another app.
