How it works

It is a book cover, not a system wallpaper.

PagePop creates a small Kindle-compatible AZW3 or MOBI book whose cover is the wallpaper you chose. Kindle’s built-in Show covers on lock screen feature then displays that cover when the device sleeps.

Tapping the download icon in PagePop prepares the wallpaper book on your iPhone and adds it to My Bookshelf. Later, your Kindle downloads that single book file directly from the phone’s temporary local address. You are not installing PagePop on Kindle or downloading the same image twice.

This does not permanently replace Kindle’s system screensaver. The wallpaper book needs to be the most recently opened book before the Kindle goes to sleep. This expanded guide also answers the questions raised in our original Reddit walkthrough.

Step by step

From PagePop wallpaper to Kindle lock screen.

  1. 01

Make sure Kindle can show book covers

On Kindle, open Settings → Screen & Brightness and turn on Show covers on lock screen. On older software, the setting may appear under Device Options as Display Cover.

  2. 02

Choose and prepare a wallpaper in PagePop

Open the Wallpaper tab, tap a design to preview it, then tap the round down-arrow button. Wait until it changes to a checkmark. PagePop builds the Kindle book on your device and adds it to My Bookshelf.

  3. 03

    Start the local file service

Connect Kindle and the iPhone or iPad to the same Wi-Fi network, or connect Kindle to the iPhone’s Personal Hotspot. On PagePop Home, start the file service and note the complete address shown by the app.

  4. 04

Download the wallpaper book on Kindle

Open the Kindle web browser and enter the exact PagePop address. Find the wallpaper by its cover or title, tap Download, and wait for the transfer to finish. Then open the downloaded wallpaper book from your Kindle Library.

  5. 05

Open it before Kindle goes to sleep

With Show covers on lock screen enabled, put Kindle to sleep while the wallpaper book is the most recently opened book. Its cover will appear as the lock screen.

Troubleshooting

If the wallpaper does not appear.

Check these in order:

  1. Sponsored or Special Offers have been removed from the Kindle through Amazon.
  2. Show covers on lock screen is enabled in Kindle Settings.
  3. The wallpaper book finished downloading and was opened from the Kindle Library.
  4. The wallpaper book—not another book—was the last item opened before sleep.
  5. PagePop remained in the foreground until the local download completed.
  6. For an older Kindle, PagePop Output Format was changed to MOBI and the wallpaper was prepared again.

Good to know

Three common questions.

Does this jailbreak or modify my Kindle?

No. PagePop uses Kindle’s existing book-cover lock-screen feature. It does not jailbreak the device or replace Kindle firmware.

Do I install PagePop on my Kindle?

No. PagePop runs only on iPhone or iPad. Kindle uses its built-in browser once to download the wallpaper book from your phone over the local network.

Will the wallpaper stay after I read another book?

Kindle shows the cover of the most recently opened book. Reopen the wallpaper book before sleep whenever you want its image to appear again.
